〔口を大きく開ける様〕 《open one's mouth》 wide; 〔急にのぼせる様〕 angrily (all of a sudden); in a (sudden) temper [rage, fit of embarrassment]; 《口》 flying off the handle.

●ワニが突然かあっと口を開けて襲いかかってきた. The crocodile suddenly opened its jaws wide and attacked (us).

・みんなに笑われてかあっとなった私は, 無我夢中で教室から逃げ出した. When everybody laughed at me, I lost my self-control and rushed out of the classroom in a fit of rage [the blood rushed to my head and I rushed out of the classroom without knowing what I was doing].

・夫は気に入らないことがあるとすぐかあっとなってどなりだす. If anything annoys him, my husband immediately flies into a rage and starts yelling.

・雷雨の後に太陽がかあっと照りつけた. After the storm, the sun burst out.
